SUPERMODEL CHANEL IMAN STREET STYLE

Image hébergée par Casimages.com : votre hébergeur d images simple et gratuit

Sure you've -at least once- heard of  the new Fashion “IT girl “ Chanel Iman !Lets learn a lil bit more about her together .
Chanel Iman Robinson was born on November 30, 1989, in Atlanta, from an African American father and a Korean mother. Her name is a combination of her mother’s fav designer and that of a cousin who was named after the model Iman: - My mother had just read a book about Coco Chanel and was impressed by how she built her empire , people always ask if I was named after Iman, which I wasn't ; I was named after my cousin Iman – she said .Chanel attended Fairfax High School until her career took off few years ago, she is currently homeschooled. Little girl , she used to study the poses of models in fashion magazines. "When I was a little girl, I lived for modeling and fashion—I used to love, love, love modeling," she recalls.Chanel practiced her walk in front of a mirror while listening to Madonna. In the first grade, she dressed for Halloween as a fashion model, strutting in the schoolyard with red lipstick and plastic heels she bought at Toys “R” Us. Years of studying magazines and striking poses at home landed her third place in Ford's Supermodel of the World contest , "it all just exploded from there." She said .

Almost immediately, the Korean/African-American beauty debuted on the catwalk for the likes of Anna Sui, Marc Jacobs, Derek Lam, Proenza Schouler, Dolce & Gabbana, and Alexander McQueen.
In October 2007, Chanel appeared with her mother on an episode of the Tyra Banks Show to discuss the challenges facing African-American models, and now Chanel calls on the daytime diva for guidance.
Impressed by her poise and ambition, Banks quickly took Iman under her wing becoming a mentor to the young talent. Chanel has since become the muse for Phillip Lim, quickly gaining momentum and notoriety among the fashion elite. The African American Beauty has carved out an impressive career for herself with a bright future in the industry transcending her 5'10" stature.

Chanel Iman, has achieved the title of fashion's newest "it girl" having graced the covers of Time Magazine Style & Design and Vogue.
In May 2007, Chanel graced the cover of the American Vogue along with several of the world's "next top models," including Lily Donaldson and Agyness Deyn. International Vogue editorials and covers followed, as well as spreads in fashion magazines such as I-D, V and Harper's Bazaar. In July 2008, she was featured in a much-hyped, all-black issue of Italian Vogue, a project she found particularly soul-satisfying...

That said, Chanel still feels frustration at the difficulties that models of color face in her industry: "It's not just black girls. It's ethnic girls in general: Brazilian girls, Hispanic. You really don't see a lot of Asians either. A lot of designers think that if every girl on the runway looks exactly alike, then people will come to the shows and buy the clothes because they won't be focusing on the models. So they're scared to use ethnic girls from all over the world because people would focus on [the models]—'Oh my god, she's so beautiful. Look at her face!'—and not on the clothes," Chanel says. "It's not even just runway either…us ethnic girls should be getting a lot of the covers too! I would love to be on half of the campaigns these [white] girls are booking, all looking exactly alike. It's not right. It's not fair."

Luckily, she's got a circle of in-the-know friends ready to help her along—among them Tyra Banks, who checks in with Chanel "all the time," and about whom Chanel laughs, "She keeps it real. She tells it like it is. She's really been a great mentor for me." Another positive force is '80s stunner Iman, “ she was also very warm when I met her, like a mom.”Chanel said .
Refferring to her mother China Robinson , Chanel says : "My mom taught me how to be classy," she says. "Sexy, but classy." And what does she, at her tender age, know about being sexy? "I know a lot," she says. "A lot."

Sure the girl knows a lot !   I love these candids , she looks great , so cute ... Who's this mysterious guy appearing on several Chanel's pics ? ...a boyfriend ? It looks like ; paparazzi caught her locking lips with guy she refers to on twitter as her “prince.” , but actually No info yet about how long they’ve been dating, the lucky guy's name, what he does for a living, or how they met .

October 2009 French Vogue is featuring photos of Supermodel Lara stone with a paint blackface .Why is this shoot so controversial ?
According to Wikipedia : "Blackface, in the narrow sense, is a style of theatrical makeup that originated in the United States, used to take on the appearance of certain archetypes of American racism, especially those of the "happy-go-lucky darky on the plantation" or the "dandified coon ". Blackface in the broader sense includes similarly stereotyped performances even when they do not involve blackface makeup. "
In my opinion these photos are so controversial because everybody is just wondering WHYWhy did the Vogue decide to take such risk – and published these photos despite of their racial implications ? what is the meaning of this photoshoot , Why did they paint the girl in black ? she’s just sensational the way she is so were there a need for painting her in black ? Why not in yellow since its the IT COLOR .

According to people who had the chance to flip through these Vogue issue ,"the text following the photos does not give any reason why the model's skin is darkened , a short introduction just mentions that the poses shows Lara Stone's 'sense of humour'."

As a Famous blogger said 'What Klein and Roitfeld should know is that painting white people black for the entertainment of other white people is offensive in ways that stand entirely apart from cultural context.'
Since all this stuff is all about perception and self-interpretation , How do you guyz feel about it ?
Apart from the controversial thing these photos are stunning to me :D , loooooooove the 1rst one !!

TYRA BANKS SUPER THIN

Year 2007 world‘s economy is doing well ;American banks are offering loans in large amounts without taking proper warranties. Suddenly mysterious clichés plunge the whole Fashion Planet into deep consternation …

Has anybody forgotten this one?

supermodel-tyra-banks-fat-thin

Above is a copy of the famous "Tyra’s kiss my fat ass photo " also called  "America's Next Top Waddle!" or "Thigh-Ra Pork ChopS!".
At that time Tyra Banks was about 161 lbs and proud !! To her detractors she used to reply : "I get so much mail from young girls who say, 'I look up to you, you're not as skinny as everyone else, I think you're beautiful.' So when they say that my body is 'ugly' and 'disgusting,' what does that make those girls feel like?I still feel hot, but every day is different. It's when I put on the jeans that used to fit a year ago and don't fit now and give me the muffin top, that's when I say, 'Damn!' "
In fact, Banks says that since she retired from modeling in 2005, the number on the scale has fluctuated from 148 lbs. to 162 lbs., depending on how well she is taking care of herself. "I feel more comfortable when I'm lighter – I sleep better, I snore less, I have more endurance when I work out, my arms look better," she admits.
“Luckily, I’m strong enough and I have a good enough support system,” Banks, 33, says. “I love my Mama, and she has helped me to be a strong woman so I can overcome these kinds of attacks, but if I had a lower self-esteem, I would probably be starving myself right now.
Her friend supermodel Heidi Klum just says that Tyra “ has a very womanly, gorgeous body that goes up and down
Like any other woman and its quite normal because morphology tends to change with age.

Okay Tyra ! I was quite shocked at first but YOU WON ! , your confidence has beaten my reticence down and I say think you should be allowed to have the weight that suits you , as long as you keep on been as Fabulous as on the photo below:

supermodel-tyra-banks-fat-thin

Why did Tyra Banks slim down all of a sudden?
Is Tyra Banks a hypocrite and were all these “big is beautiful “speeches  rubbish?
Or has Tyra been “forced” to consent to the weight loss ?
Actually , there are rumors about CW Chanel’s producers  - America's Next Top Model- putting pressure on Tyra to lose some weight because she was too big on screen compared to contestants , always according to rumors some ANTP photoshoots have been touched up to make her look thin .

Tyra, host of America’s Next Top Model, has dropped down from size 14-16 to size 8 thanks to a regime of diet and exercise. She explains how she got the idea of starting a weight-loss challenge with her "America's Next Top Model" staff members: "We were sitting around a table and kind of trash talking," Banks said. "And decided to do this challenge because we all love food. I trash talked so much where I had to win -- and I did."
So what do you think is the real reason for Tyra Banks weight loss ?
Do you like before or after ?

IS Tyra Banks the next Oprah Winfrey ?

TYRA BANKS is catching up with her idol OPRAH WINFREY in the fortune stakes – Actually , according to Forbes Tyra Banks is the top earning female on prime time . Big part of this success is due to her hit show "America's Next Top Model" .
Forbes estimates her revenues at about $30 million from "Top Model," her daytime talk show and various other TV appearances.
Banks has been busy these past few years as she's morphed from model to mogul. She produces two highly rated TV shows: an eponymous daytime talk show and the reality smash America's Next Top Model.

Maybe youre not totally wrong but listen

FATIMA SIAD PHOTOSHOOT FRONT PAGE MAG

FATIMA SIAD PHOTOSHOOT FRONT PAGE MAG

I heart the ethnic inspiration of this Front Page photoshoot , Fatima Siad is really getting pro , I love the colors , the animal prints ...
But at the same time why should Black SuperModels be used  most of the time for such stereotyped jobs ?
They should be allowed to work on more Mass-Media projects , they've got skills for that too .

Ethnicity is a Fashion's great CONCEPT ,
and this is the issue !
its like ethnicity in the fashion industry is just a concept, modeling world is still facing this "All White Runways " issue .According to Jasmine H. Chang , executive fashion editor of O, the Oprah Magazine , the lack of ethnic models and especially the absence of african descent models ,last season made her feel uncomfortable .
" Here I am seated in an audience with every ethnicity in the world, and I did feel it was wrong ", she said.
While Fashion Designer Vivienne Westwood is striving to convince Fashion industry's actors to allow some more colors in the business, the crual reality is there : Of the 101 shows and presentations posted last Fashion Weeks on Style.com,more than a third employed no black models, ( cf : Women's Wear Daily).

The thing is that this issue that we could qualify of "racial discrimination" is inherent to Fashion.
Actually modeling is by definition the place where individuals are judged based on physical features like height , weight ,bone structure , teeth whiteness ....and  naturally racial origins.
Also bad habits are the most difficult to leave and many people having some influence in Fashion are certainly thinking the same as  Jennifer Starr - judge on TV Show "Make Me a Supermodel"
and casting for Ralph Lauren, J Mendel, Alice Temperley and Carlos Miele -
"none should compromise their aesthetic just to be more representational " she said .
Well ! I think the Ethnicity Issue must be solved as soon as possible to save fashion's future.

AMERICAS NEXT TOPMODEL : FATIMA SIAD

supermodel-african-black-fatima-siad

" I want people to know me as Fatima. I don't want to be known as 'Baby Iman. It's so funny because I actually did not like that at all, I want to make a name for myself ."

Since the first minutes of America's Next Top Model cycle 10 Fatima Siad the Somali contestant caught viewers’ and judges attention .
This girl seems to be hot-blooded !

supermodel-african-black-fatima-siad

"First of all, I don’t look anything like Iman. She is beautiful and amazing, and she is such a wonderful woman, and I wish I could be like her. But just because we are from Somalia doesn’t mean we look alike."

This First impression will never totally disappear all along the show.
Fatima has been one of the show's most competitive and controversial participants , as for instance she was one of the cycle 10 contestant who never really held back what was on her mind, and this got her into a few arguments with the other girls.
One of Siad's biggest criticisms from Top Model's judging panel is that she had a hard time listening to directions.

But who is this Somali leggy girl and how did she get into the show ?

supermodel-african-black-fatima-siad

Fatima was born in Mogadishu, Somalia on December 17, 1986 from a Somali mother and a Somali-Ethiopian father (Oh My Genes !! She Was bound to be a Model) . Her parents divorced at a young age and she grew up there with her mother and two sisters. In 1991 started a civil war that changed forever Fatima’s life : Just as her mother was preparing to leave Somalia for safety militiamen stormed their home and fatally shot the two younger sisters who were just 8 and 10 .
Siad and her mother fled to the United States (Boston-Massachusetts) when she was thirteen .She went to Bryn Mawr College in 2004 and transferred to New York University to study pre-med and political science. She transferred back to Bryn Mawr College to finish her education.

supermodel-african-black-fatima-siad

To the question : " How did you end up on the show ? ", Fatima simply replies :
"A friend of mine told me about it. I never really watched the show completely but I decided to apply and ended up making it on the show; it was really a random thing. I just went and auditioned one day."

I had no idea what the hell I was doing," she told reporters. "I didn't know anything about modeling. It was so foreign to me. It was just so hard to concentrate with a camera in your face, people yelling at you, cold weather.

supermodel-african-black-fatima-siad

Fatima finally placed third on America's Next Top Model, America's Next Top Model, Cycle 10.
"I figured that I was going home" , she told Reality TV World. "Well, every week I think I'm going home. But I'm actually really surprised that I made it that far"
Another aspect of Fashion Model Siad described as "emotional" was the fact that she openly talked about being the victim of genital mutilation .
"I was talking about things that I never really talked about before. I felt very vulnerable; It really helped me a lot because I feel like I'm more sure about myself now than I was before I went on the show."

......................................

Honestly I didnt watched this program , Ive first heard
about Fatima Siad while I was making pre-investigations to create the Dark Bohemiia Blog .
Now Im just wondering ...
lets be objective : It’s quite weird that all Somali models
trying to break into the fashion industry kind of "use" FGM ,Somalian war or forced marriage .

Of course as Fatima said " everybody has the right
to share their life experiences and that was my life experience "
okay I agree , in one way you're right Fatima but come on !...
Feels like they catch attention not because of their skills
but just because they've got something"interesting" to tell
Anyway , thats the way I feel about it ,
do you feel the same ?
